Mindy's Hot Chocolate Craft Food & Drink

Mindy's Hot Chocolate Craft Food & Drink is owned by 2012 James Beard Outstanding Pastry Chef recipient, Mindy Segal. This recently revamped restaurant is located in the trendy neighborhood of Bucktown.  Mindy Segal's desserts absolutely knock my socks off.  All her pastry dishes are extremely creative, perfectly executed and establishes a high standard for desserts that many restaurants fail to meet.  Not only do they offer fantastic sweets, Mindy's Hot Chocolate  offers a full service lunch, brunch, and dinner.  The dinner menu offers small plates, as well as, large plates that include whole roasted fish, steak, chicken, and more.  Plus, the menu changes according to which locally sourced produce and ingredients are in season.  Reservations can be made via Mindy's Hot Chocolate Craft Food & Drink's website, Opentable or Yelp

I felt like a PIMP drinking out of this cup.  Don't forget to try their amazing cocktails . . .
. . . and their wonderful array of craft beers.
Arugula Salad.  Nichols Farm arugula, fresh Klug Farms tart cherries, Guntharp Farm pork belly, and vinaigrette

Beets Salad.  Roasted beets in olive oil and citrus with cucumber, sour cream and dill salad, caraway cracker.  Refreshing and delish!
The famous Mac and Cheese.
I loved the broiled cheesy crust that sealed in the rich and creamy macaroni.
Steamed mussels.  Old Milwaukee & Kilgus cream broth, red onion, jalapeno & grilled sourdough baguette.
The mussels were juicy and delish and the broth was savory and full of flavor.
Hamburger.  House-ground Heartland beef, organic bacon and Widmer 4-year-aged cheddar, house-made pickle on a garlic-toasted sesame bun served with cottage chips.
One of the highlights of the evening with all the necessary fixins'!
Over easy egg?  Check.  Thick, chewy bacon? Double-check. Aged cheddar cheese?  Triple check.  Perfectly cooked, juicy beef patty in between a buttery toasted bun?  Mother friggin' check all over that!!!
Salmon. Sockeye salmon with a shallot vinaigrette topped with fresh watercress.
The bites I had from the center of the filet melted in my mouth like butter. However, the salmon was slightly overcooked around the edges and the appearance of albumin was a tad unappealing despite the beautifully seared salmon skin.  But that did NOT stop me from licking this plate clean.  I would still highly recommend this dish.
Dark Hot Chocolate.  The hot chocolate here is wonderfully thick, rich, and unlike any other hot chocolate I've ever tasted.  The house made marshmallow is my absolute favorite part of this beverage.
Bacon chocolate chip cookie.  Bacon + chocolate = AMAZEBALLS.  This exact same cookie is also offered at Belly Shack.
Skillet Souffle.  Chocolate skillet soufflĂ©, salted caramel ice cream, and pretzels.  OH MY LORDY, ORDER THIS!  Hot and cold temperatures with sweet and salty flavors, combined with crunchy and ooey gooey textures... this dessert is just absolute perfection!
Happy eating.

xoxo
