Au Cheval

Au Cheval is the chic new diner located on the famed Restaurant Row on the corner of Randolph and Halsted.  Au Cheval has been creating a buzz ever since Brendon Sodikoff (owner of Gilt Bar, Maude's Liquor Bar, and the infamous Doughnut Vault) opened his recent venture.  Although Au Cheval is ostensibly categorized as a diner, the dimly lit interior, exposed brick walls, and sleek stainless steel open kitchen, create a sexy and sophisticated venue that rubs off a 1930s French vibe.  The food is ridiculously delicious and incorporates an egg in almost every dish.  Why the incredible, edible egg?  Because the term "au cheval" is culinary slang for "with an egg on top."  Not to mention, the music is so good that I wish I had Shazam'd every tune all night!  No reservations are taken at this time so take a seat at the bar and sip on a wonderfully crafted stiff cocktail or one of their 30+ craft beers while you wait.

Amazing beer selection.
Our server was very knowledgeable about the beer menu and perfectly selected a tasty frothy ale for my friend and I.
Menu
Roasted Bone Marrow, Beef Cheek Marmalade, and Toast
Roasted Bone Marrow, Beef Cheek Marmalade, and Toast
HARDCORE FOODGASM ALERT! A must order!
Rich, sweet, and savory!  The incorporation of beef cheek marmalade is f*ing genius!  OBSESSED!
Chopped Salad with Bacon, Egg, and Ranch Dressing
This is not your average salad.  Truly decadent and bold in flavors.
The thick cut, caramelized bacon made this salad unforgettable.
Smashed Potatoes and Roasted Garlic Gravy
AMAZEBALLS!  YOU MUST ORDER THIS SIDE!
Omelette Du Jour
How perfect is this omelette?  My omelette's NEVER turn out like that.  Rather, mine always look like a chicken took a sh*t in my skillet.
Oozing with spinach, brie, and grilled onions.
BLACK DOG GELATO.  Oh my Lordy, desserts can't get any better than this.
Both scoops may look exactly the same, but we ordered the Vanilla Malt and Peppermint.  The Peppermint is a MUST ORDER!  One of my absolute favorite flavors from Black Dog!
Comes with a side of hot fudge.
Top it off with some hot fudge.
Hell to the yes.  Gelato party in your mouth.

Happy eating.
